INTRODUCING CIFF LOVE LETTERS: Valentines day has come early! We’ve thought a lot this year about how we can build connections between audience members and filmmakers within a virtual space. One of the hardest things about this year for filmmakers, is that they have not been able to forge spontaneous connections with audiences and hear from them directly. The stretch of desert leading migrants into the dusty border town of Ajo, AZ is deadly. For generations, people in town have been helping North-bound migrants survive these conditions, until a resident, Scott Warren, was arrested and charged with three felony counts for providing food, water and shelter to two migrants. He faces twenty years in prison. As Scott prepares for felony trial, the people of Ajo struggle with the question posed by Scott’s arrest: when helping travelers in need becomes a crime, what is the right thing to do?

For the Love of Rutland explores the complex life of a blue-collar Vermont town as a partial microcosm/mirror of our current national and global reality. After a lifetime of being invalidated and shamed for her poverty and addiction, Stacie emerges as an unexpected and resilient leader in a town divided by class, cultural values, and the toxic politics of today.
