An environmental thriller that probes the murky depths of the Southeast Asian fishing industry, CURRENT SEA follows investigative journalist, Matt Blomberg, and ocean activist, Paul Ferber, in their dangerous efforts to create a marine conservation area and combat the relentless tide of illegal fishing. Along the way a new generation of Cambodian environmentalists are inspired to create a better life for their people. Directed by CBFF alumnus Christopher Carson Smith (TINY HOUSE, 2013). This film has been generously sponsored by Chelsea and Dave Stangl and Crested Butte Family Dental; and by SevenBridge Financial Group. Director BioChristopher Smith is a documentary, commercial, and music video director and producer. His first feature documentary, TINY: A Story About Living Small, premiered at SXSW in 2013 and was screened at more than 40 film festivals around the world including Hot Docs, DOC NYC, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, and Mountainfilm in Telluride. TINY won several awards during its festival run. It was released in June 2014 via Al Jazeera America and First Run Features on Netflix, Hulu, and iTunes where it was extremely popular with millions of views. Christopher is currently in production on his third feature, American ESPionage. In addition to theatrical documentaries, Christopher directs music videos, branded content, and other commercial content for global brands and organizations. MATAGI MĀLOHI : STRONG WINDS ﻿The Pacific Climate Warriors, born out of the low-lying Pacific Islands, are an indigenous and youth-led movement that have been on the front lines of climate change for decades—their rally cry is “we are not drowning, we are fighting.” In their own words "Matagi Mālohi tells the story of our journey to uplift our people and shape a narrative that paints us not as victims of the climate crisis but as the leaders, the healers, the nurturers, the artists, the gardeners, the growers, the seafarers and the navigators we are."
