In September 2012, Cristina Costantini and Alfie Koetter moved into a brownstone apartment on Union Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love with the neighborhood and their landlord, Matty “Square” Ruggiero. Her first feature film, SCIENCE FAIR, won the Sundance Festival Favorite Award as well as the SXSW Audience Award, a Critics Choice Award for Best First Time Director, and an Emmy Award. Alfie is a designer, educator and filmmaker. His animated work has appeared in SCIENCE FAIR, MUCHO MUCHO AMOR, and OWN THE ROOM."

THE ORIGINALS

Matty "Square" Ruggiero and his childhood friends, the Union Street Boys, tell their story of what it was like to grow up in South Brooklyn, where money was tight but friendships were tighter. From CBFF alum and award-winning director of SCIENCE FAIR, Cristina Costantini.

An essay film about the directors' efforts to create a virtual replica of the real world by creating 3D models of animals, rain forests, cities, and people; archiving as if ecological collapse could be staved off through creating a digital Noah’s Ark of beasts and objects. <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/11f435abc00c0ac6b1f6c8353c87945d.jpg" width="299" style="display: inline; float: left; margin: 0px 1em 1em 0px;">Deniz Tortum, Kathryn HamiltonDeniz Tortum works in film and immersive media. His work has screened internationally at the Venice Film Festival, IFFR, SxSW, IDFA, Sheffield DocFest, and Dokufest. His latest film, PHASES OF MATTER (2020) premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam and received the Best Documentary Award at Istanbul and Antalya Film Festivals. His previous film, IF ONLY THERE WERE PEACE (co-directed by C. Grimaldi, 2017), received the Best Short Documentary Award at Dokufest, and his VR film FLOODPLAIN (2018) premiered at the Venice Film Festival. He was featured in Filmmaker Magazine’s "25 New Faces of Independent Film" in 2019. <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/1eb6621de7606d25985e7107fb7d8aa8.png" width="301" style="display: inline; float: left; margin: 0px 1em 1em 0px;">Kathryn Hamilton, aka Sister Sylvester, is an artist and self-taught microbiologist making work in New York and Istanbul. As Sister Sylvester she creates essayistic performances that use firsthand research, found documents, animals, and technology to make cross-species collaborations and cyborg theater. She teaches a bio-hacking performance class, The School of Genetically Modified Theater, and has taught that and other classes at Colorado College, Princeton, UCCS, Columbia University, Bogazici, Istanbul, and MIT. Her work has been reviewed by Artforum, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Performance Art Journal, and Telerama."

OUR ARK

OUR ARK is an essay film about its creators' efforts to design a virtual replica of the real world.

Shawn Hayes leads a life of devotion. For him, falconry is more than a deep partnership with raptors: it’s his life’s work. As an American falconry ambassador, he’s carved a space for himself where people of color haven’t always been welcome. It's taken him across the globe, into strongholds of tradition and conservation. This film is about more than what humans can train birds to do—it’s about what those birds can teach us about living in partnership with wild creatures and wild places. <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/12399752d028df1fbfe280757d559abc.jpg" style="display: inline; float: left; margin: 0px 1em 1em 0px;" width="411">Josh Izenberg, Brett MartyJosh Izenberg and Brett Marty have been making documentaries that explore the human relationship to technology and the natural world for over a decade. Their work has screened all over the globe. They live in the Bay Area, California.

In 2004 he co-founded Trixie Film with Brendan Canty (Fugazi) to release the highly regarded BURN TO SHINE video series. He has co-produced and directed a long list of music-related films for artists such as Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Shellac, and Wilco. In addition to documentary film work, he has produced many nationally recognized commercials, public service campaigns and corporate and non-profit branding campaigns. In 2018, Christoph Green and Julia Glazer released their acclaimed documentary THE LIBERATION, a film about a class struggling through the life-changing Culinary Training Program at D.C. Central Kitchen. Christoph Green is currently developing FLUX, a television series about gender, identity, and love.
