In Taliban-ruled Kabul, a group of young women risk everything. Inspired by Anne Frank, they secretly read banned books. Much of the footage comes from real video diaries, which adds to the film’s authenticity. The disturbing vice that grips women under Taliban rule is on full display. The powerful documentary is a glimpse into the resilience of young Afghan women resisting oppression through literature.
