Perched on the edge of the continental shelf, 300km from the Australian mainland lies Scott Reef. This ancient coral atoll, isolated for millions of years from other reef systems and mainland influences, has developed its own sub populations of unique species. Formed more than 15 million years ago Scott Reef is home to more than 1200 species including endangered seas snakes, green turtles and spectacular corals. Endangered pygmy whales and other rare cetaceans stop at Scott Reef on their annual migrations to feed on the abundant krill. It is one of only a few spots along the west coast of Australia where krill can be found in sufficient quantities to replenish the needs of these large creatures. But Scott Reef is under threat. The reef sits on a huge reservoir of gas known as the Browse Basin. Global corporation Woodside and its joint venture partners want to drill for gas and oil under the reef ecosystem. The energy giant wants to sink 50 oil and gas wells in the waters around the unique coral atoll, some as close and 2.4km from the reef's edge. Woodside argues that the gas project, which is expected to last till 2070, will help the world decarbonise. But conservationists disagree and say the world already has enough gas to meet global needs in the transition to net zero. Corals' Last Stand follows the voyage of a team of prominent Australians including author Tim Winton and musician John Butler as they travel to the reef to bring worldwide attention to the impact that drilling will have on this special place. This half hour documentary asks whether Australia can really afford to exploit this gas reserve in a time of growing community concern at rising global temperatures. And if it does will Scott Reef and the life it supports be the collateral damage of that decision.

FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA explores the life of Katharine Lee Bates, author of America the Beautiful, and the hidden meanings behind many of her song lyrics, which were written on Colorado's Pike Peak.

When climber and National Park Service employee Nate Vince was fired under controversial circumstances, he staged a protest by hanging an upside-down American flag off Yosemite's iconic El Capitan, an act that captured national attention. This short documentary tells the story behind that moment and explores Nate's deep connection to the park, his passion for climbing, and his commitment to protecting public lands and the communities built around them. I first heard about Nate after his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I reached out to him, and before long, he was at my place. We ended up chatting on camera about everything he'd been going through recently. We posted a short clip together on Instagram and to our surprise, it had a huge impact. At the very least, it gave us the motivation to tell the full story. So I headed to Yosemite to spend three days with Nate. We climbed, talked with friends, met new people, and simply enjoyed our time in the Valley. It gave me a glimpse into the beautiful lives of climbers and park staffers who spend seasons - or even years - living there. This documentary is our attempt to capture that world. It's a story we hope will inspire others to care a little more deeply about our national parks and recognize how fragile they really are. It takes a village to keep these places running. The pay isn't great, and the work is hard. But the passion for the land keeps these folks going and that's something worth having compassion for.

Valley Under Fire

After being fired from the National Park Service, climber Nate Vince staged a bold protest by hanging an upside-down flag on El Capitan - sparking national attention and inspiring this short documentary about his connection to Yosemite, his fight for public lands, and the people who dedicate their lives to protecting them.
