Every weekday, dozens of inmates are released on parole from Huntsville State Penitentiary, the largest prison release center in Texas. With a bus ticket voucher and $100 release check, most of them take in their first moments out with phone calls, cigarettes, and quiet reflection at the Greyhound station up the block. In this pivotal moment, between incarceration and freedom, a myriad of complicated emotions arise before the bus arrives to take them home. Directors' Bio:Chris Filippone is a documentary filmmaker whose work has screened at the Berlinale, Visions du Réel, SXSW, CPH:DOX, Sheffield Doc/Fest and Ann Arbor Film Festival. His film SCRAP won the Spirit Award for Short Documentary at the Brooklyn Film Festival in 2017 and A VIEW FROM THE WINDOW was nominated for a 2018 Best of the Year Award on Vimeo. He has received support from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, MiND TV and the Bread and Roses Fund as well as fellowships from the Telluride Student Symposium and UFVA. He is a graduate of Stanford University’s M.F.A. Documentary Film Program. Jamie Meltzer is a documentary filmmaker and the Program Director of the M.F.A. Program in Documentary Film at Stanford University. His most recent documentary feature, TRUE CONVICTION (Independent Lens, 2018), a co-production of ITVS and the recipient of a Sundance Institute grant and a MacArthur grant, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival where it won a Special Jury Mention. INFORMANT (2012), about a revolutionary activist turned FBI informant, was released in theaters in the US and Canada in Fall 2013 by Music Box Films and KinoSmith. Previous films include: OFF THE CHARTS: THE SONG-POEM STORY (Independent Lens, 2003), about the shadowy world of song-poems; WELCOME TO NOLLYWOOD (PBS Broadcast, 2007), an investigation into the wildly successful Nigerian movie industry; and LA CAMINATA (2009), a short film about a small town in Mexico that runs a simulated border crossing as a tourist attraction.

Rosa is the real life Nonna of filmmaker Marco Baldonado. TOTO is an ode to her traditions but is also a warning signal about losing these traditions in times to come. TOTO is a bittersweet sci-fi story about love, language, family and technology. Director Bio:Marco Baldonado is a Canadian filmmaker. At the age of 16 he won best music video in a Sony Ericsson contest. He used his earnings towards accomplishing his BFA in Film Studies at Ryerson University. His work focuses on visually striking and heartfelt storytelling.

But hey, not everyone makes it. Director's Bio:Justin Zimmerman, MFA in Film, is a nationally recognized writer, director and professor. His narrative and documentary work has appeared in more than 150 film festivals across the globe and has been broadcast on national public television, where he won two international television awards. He's also been the recipient of multiple grants and fellowships, he contributed a story to the Eisner Award-winning graphic novel Love Is Love, and his script and comic work has been optioned on multiple occasions. In tone some of it reminded me of Herzog’s amazing Stroszek."&nbsp;-Luke Davies, Oscar-nominated screenwriter (Lion, Beautiful Boy) Director Bio:Lili Bordán was born in NYC to a Hungarian mother and father and is a citizen of both the US and the EU. She started her acting career as a child on the stage in US regional theater and in Hungary. She currently resides in New York, where she is developing her film and TV acting and directing careers. She is a native English speaker but is also fluent in French and Hungarian, and with a repertoire of international accents and various skills, she is a true chameleon! She recently acted in and helped produce feature film CURTIZ, which was bought by Netflix for world-wide streaming, and directed a series teaser, which got over 50k views on Instagram. She is attached as producer/director on several other projects and her own short film, ONE NIGHT ONLY, is currently making the film festival circuit. She continues to study acting and filmmaking with teachers Joan Scheckel and John Markland. Former teachers include Sandra Seacat, Susan Batson, and the late and great Charlie Laughton.

TEN LEAVES DILATED is a documentary that uses the make-believe world crafted by Cabbage Patch Kids to examine discourses surrounding childbirth and motherhood in the American South. A household name in the 80s and 90s, Cabbage Patch Kids are plush dolls that are said to be born out of a head of cabbage. The headquarters, located in Cleveland, Georgia, offers an experience where children can watch their dolls being born through a simulated medical birth where store employees dressed as nurses act out birthing a babydoll from a cabbage patch. The film uses audio interviews of mothers, doulas, and birth professionals alongside a visual exploration of cabbage birthing myths and fairytales throughout history in order to investigate the modern-day cabbage patch fairy tale and its connection to the lack of candid discussion about birthing in our society. Director Bio:﻿Kate E. Hinshaw is a tactile filmmaker and cinematographer who works with digital and film cameras alike. Coming from an experimental background, she is interested in using the cinematic gaze to render visible the interiority of the feminine. Tactily, she works with 16mm and super 8mm film through bleaching, scratching, painting, and burning the emulsion in order to tell stories through color and texture. Her work has screened at SXSW, Maryland Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Denver Film Festival, and Indie Grits. She earned an MFA at the University of Colorado at Boulder in Spring 2020 where she was awarded a teaching excellence award for her work as a digital cinematography instructor and was the recipient of the 2021 Southern Documentary Fund Filmmaker award for excellence in southern storytelling. She publishes and curates Analog Cookbook—a film zine that celebrates and shares knowledge of analog filmmaking, darkroom processes, and features artists from all over the world. She currently resides in Wilmington, NC where she is Assistant Professor of Cinematography at UNCW.

As Beth forges a path she neither expected nor wanted, she learns that life can hold despair and joy at the same time. Director Bio:Cynthia Wade is a DGA film director based in Los Angeles. HOMELAND/WETLAND is a short experimental documentary that takes a hyper-local look at the nearly extinct South Louisiana lifestyle of living off of the land and in extended family compounds. Strategies for independent survival are a Louisiana inheritance. But, as large multi-nationals corner traditionally local markets and squeeze out local knowledge workers, what were once well-known stratlegies for survival in the swamp are lost to future generations. Director's Bio:PATRICK JACKSON AND DANEETA LORETTA JACKSON (a.k.a. Elektrik Zoo Films) began their co-directing collaboration in 2002 with their feature documentary “Tokyo Cowboys.” After graduating with distinction from the London Film School, they worked in film in London making short form content until 2008 when they married and moved to Daneeta’s native Louisiana. In New Orleans, they formalized their partnership by founding ElekTrik Zoo Films, Inc., the umbrella under which they make our films, work and sundry.&nbsp;Their Louisiana body of work includes narratives, documentaries, hybrids, a major exhibition, thousands of photographs, writings and photo essays. They have also co-direct and create cutting-edge moving picture and text content for a variety of local, national and international clients including:&nbsp;The Kellogg Foundation, Loyola University New Orleans, The Youth Empowerment Project, The Historic New Orleans Collection, Elephant Quilt,&nbsp;Day for Night Films, The Legacy Foundation, Dartmouth PRC, Franz Kirmann, storycentral, LOOP NOLA, LA Green Corps, Conducttr, Chard Gonzalez Dance Theatre. David is shocked to learn that, due to a side effect of climate change, humanity has only a few weeks with enough oxygen left. So far trapped in the machinery of everyday life, he has to find out for himself how he wants to spend the precious last days of his life. Director Bio:Jesko Thiel was born in Bremen in 1988. Almost being a digital natives brought him the opportunity of gaining initial experience with digital video editing and postproduction while being in school. He studied Politics and English at the Leibniz University of Hannover after his civil service, but dropped out of university to follow his passion and returned to video and film production. Since 2015 he works at the University of Hannover as part of the media production team and holds the position of a creative director. After many image films and promotional work 2020s LO2SS marks his debut as a short film-director.
