HOMELAND/WETLAND is a short experimental documentary that takes a hyper-local look at the nearly extinct South Louisiana lifestyle of living off of the land and in extended family compounds. Strategies for independent survival are a Louisiana inheritance. But, as large multi-nationals corner traditionally local markets and squeeze out local knowledge workers, what were once well-known stratlegies for survival in the swamp are lost to future generations. Director's Bio:PATRICK JACKSON AND DANEETA LORETTA JACKSON (a.k.a. Elektrik Zoo Films) began their co-directing collaboration in 2002 with their feature documentary “Tokyo Cowboys.” After graduating with distinction from the London Film School, they worked in film in London making short form content until 2008 when they married and moved to Daneeta’s native Louisiana. In New Orleans, they formalized their partnership by founding ElekTrik Zoo Films, Inc., the umbrella under which they make our films, work and sundry.&nbsp;Their Louisiana body of work includes narratives, documentaries, hybrids, a major exhibition, thousands of photographs, writings and photo essays. They have also co-direct and create cutting-edge moving picture and text content for a variety of local, national and international clients including:&nbsp;The Kellogg Foundation, Loyola University New Orleans, The Youth Empowerment Project, The Historic New Orleans Collection, Elephant Quilt,&nbsp;Day for Night Films, The Legacy Foundation, Dartmouth PRC, Franz Kirmann, storycentral, LOOP NOLA, LA Green Corps, Conducttr, Chard Gonzalez Dance Theatre. Daneeta brings over three decades of commercial, journalistic, and creative writing experience to the partnership, while Patrick brings a keen visual sensibility grounded in a previous career in London as a cinematographer. There are no hard lines in the partnership. Each of us formerly trained in the art and technique&nbsp;of independent filmmaking at the London Film School, and we have come together to amplify stories ... to Elektrify them. Director Bio:Christi Cooper is a PhD scientist, documentary filmmaker, and Emmy-award winning cinematographer. Christi focuses her storytelling and visual narratives on issues of justice and impact by creating human connections to the most pressing issues of our time. She left a successful academic and research career in Europe to obtain an MFA in Science &amp; Natural History Filmmaking. In 2011, Christi co-created Stories of TRUST: Calling for Climate Recovery, a 10-part documentary series featuring youth plaintiffs suing their state governments over climate change, with WITNESS, a social justice/human rights organization focused on using film for social change. The campaign was used to reach decision-makers and judges who were ruling on climate litigation brought to the courts by young people. She recently premiered her first feature documentary, YOUTH v GOV, at DocNYC. Her film awards include ReelWomen Direct Award for Excellence in Directing by a Woman from Cleveland International Film Festival; Best of Fest, Audience Award, and Best Feature Documentary from Woods Hole Film Festival; among others. Christi is the inaugural SFFilm/Vulcan Productions Environmental Film Fellow and the first Jacob Burns Film Center Focus on Nature Artist-in-Resident. In addition to communicating sometimes very complex issues through storytelling and visual narrative, her primary goals are to combine her research skills and in-depth knowledge of science with her desire to create compelling narratives focused on raising awareness about sociopolitical issues and justice. In her "free" time, she enjoys being a mother and a partner, growing her own food, and relishing in the incredible beauty and lifestyle of Montana.
