The Embrace
When the world is crumbling, where to find hope? A 50-year-old Argentine tango teacher, Carolina Pirotta’s precariously-built world is upended by the election of a right wing populist. Offering an intimate lens on a life lived amid economic turmoil, this film dives into a world of tango that refuses to be bound by tradition - examining issues of power, resistance and resilience in the process. Through tracing Carolina’s steps, it also takes the audience on a poetic journey from the neon-drenched dancehalls and protest-packed streets of Buenos Aires to the sunset-bathed mountains of Patagonia.

Every line across our face tells a story—we’ve laughed them, cried them, earned them. Inspired by Dolly Parton’s reminder that a life fully lived is nothing to hide, this block brings together films that honor the beauty of aging, love, and the wisdom that comes with both.

Two lifetimes from now the world hangs in the balance. Dove, a young, enigmatic, gender-shifting warrior, discovers the gifts and burdens of their Inkwo (medicine) to defend against an army of hungry, ferocious monsters. Dove’s courage, resilience and alliance with the Earth culminates in a battle against these flesh-consuming creatures, who become stronger with each body and soul they devour. Inkwo for When the Starving Return is a call to action to fight and protect against the forces of greed around us.
