Checkpoint
Set in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank, Checkpoint follows 11-year-old Leila, who wakes up before dawn every morning to try to get through the military checkpoint between her and her school on time.
Papalotl-Muyus (Butterfly Seeds)
This dance film focuses on the story of the cycle of the “semilla” (seed), attesting that no matter where we go, our roots connect us to our ancestors and to each other. We overcome impunity by cultivating, sprouting and growing life wherever we go.
Odyssey
Odyssey tells the story of a migrant–of any migrant–who is forced to leave his home behind, becoming part of a deadly and violent Mediterranean odyssey that stains the sea red.
Water, Wind, Dust, Bread
A documentary about two pre-teen children who struggle to live in a palm orchard near the Afghan-Iranian border, where foreign visitors often head for eco-tourism.
My Life in a Suitcase
A teenager is preparing to leave her country in search of a better life and must decide what to pack in her suitcase.
Roots
A young girl reflects on her mother's experience immigrating to the US.
Terra Nullius
Ermina is a Haitian girl who lives in Santiago's La Victoria neighbourhood. For some this is an inhospitable place, but in her eyes and those of her friends it is the home of their adventures and dreams.
The Departure
Morocco, 2004. Eleven-year-old Adli is upset by the visit of his father and his big brother, who leave for France in just a few days.
Esperança
Esperança, 15, and her mother have just arrived in France from Angola. At Amiens Station, they don't know where to sleep, and look for someone who can help them.

This collection of films explores stories of immigration, migration, and separation. These kids show us the resilience it takes to grow up in an uncertain world.

To accommodate evolving public health recommendations regarding COVID-19, we are adopting a hybrid virtual-and-in-person festival model for CFFS 2022. VIRTUAL, IN-PERSON, and HYBRID (virtual AND in-person) Festival Passes are available here.

⚠️ For the sake of public safety, NWFF patrons ages 5+ will be required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination and to double-mask while in the building. Disposable masks are available at the door for those who need them. ⚠️

NWFF is adapting to evolving recommendations to protect the public from COVID-19. Read more about their policies regarding cleaning, masks, and capacity limitations here. We reserve the option to shift the festival to virtual-only on short notice.
