Julieta and the Turtle in the Plastic Soup (Julieta & de schildpadden in de plastic soep)

Mosquito Fish
If you've never heard of mosquito fish, this charming short will tell you everything you need to know about them and the positive environmental impact they have.
Keradó
An intriguing mixture of legend and fantasy introduces us to a young indigenous Embera Katío girl who follows a mysterious glowing toad into dangerous territory. Together with her grandfather, she confronts a hydroelectric power plant which threatens her village and brings a new hope to the people who live there.

Parents used to teach their children about climate change; now, children are teaching their parents. The short films in this collection demonstrate the ways in which today's youth have quite literally taken matters into their own hands to ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations. We can't wait for others to make change happen – it's up to us!

This program will also screen in person at NWFF on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 12:30pm! VIRTUAL, IN-PERSON, and HYBRID (virtual AND in-person) Festival Passes are available.

⚠️ Please note: NWFF patrons will be required to wear masks that cover both nose and mouth while in the building. Disposable masks are available at the door for those who need them. We are not currently checking vaccination cards. Read full COVID policies here.

14-year-old Julieta lives on the Caribbean island of Curaçao and prefers to be underwater rather than above. The wonderful, exciting world of the ocean feels like home to Julieta, but the more time she spends there, the more waste she finds on the seabed. All that trash makes her extremely mad!

Together with other volunteers on Curaçao, Julieta rescues sea turtles in need, and tries to improve their habitat. Her actions sometimes only feel like a drop in the ocean, but she stays positive – it's important to believe that you can help make the world better, even when it seems impossible.
