This country takes hate very seriously - and there are over 900 organized hate groups to prove it. Our society is increasingly apathetic and violent. Early on, many are taught to hate the enemy, to be fearful of the other, to feel threatened by those different from them. Participating in groups with hateful beliefs and expressions provides a connection that perhaps fills the emptiness or inner pain. It is time to separate the facts from the myths about LGBTQ+.

When she learns that the local youth centre is in danger, Geneviève refuses to give in without a fight. She tries to convince her friend Gadou to participate in the movement to save it. Salut, Gadou! is a fictitious tribute to the Saint-Jean-Baptiste neighbourhood’s history of community involvement (downtown Quebec). It is based on a novel by the same name by Malcolm Reid, published in 1982. Reid’s novel was inspired by the neighbourhood’s Saint-Gabriel movement (1976) and the operation to rescue what is now the community’s youth centre. Starting in June 2021, a cultural outreach project transformed an entire inner-city neighbourhood into a playground for fiction and learning about civil society. Readings and group discussions were fuel for writing scenes and poems. Young people imagined how the story might take shape in today’s world before participating in organizing, filming, and creating the original soundtrack. Salut, Gadou! involved 10 youths for an entire summer, four of whom worked on screenwriting. Twenty-odd youths had speaking parts while just as many were extras. Thirty-odd adults, including historian Réjean Lemoine and four professional actors (Charlie Cameron, Justice Rutikara, Jean-Marie Alexandre, Thomas Langlois) were also involved, as well as a choir of 12 children from immigrant backgrounds who are neighbours. Salut Gadou! also had its own band and features five never-before-released songs. More than 20 neighbourhood businesses supported the project, which was produced in collaboration with the Comité populaire Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the Maison des jeunes Saint-Jean-Baptiste and La Bande Vidéo. In Victorian-era England, highly precocious and imaginative eleven-year-old Georgiana Crimsworth is up late enjoying a good book. She suddenly experiences cramps and finds blood on her sheets. Not having received the talk yet, she doesn’t understand that this is her first period, and she thinks she’s dying. Her imagination runs amok as she searches for answers among sins and deadly disease, and fears the worst for what this means for herself and for her family.

Reyna is a 2D animated short film about Vina, this year's lead Queen in the Santacruzan festival, who struggles to get ready after members in the community make negative comments about her appearance. Joy, Vina's supportive sister, helps her to get ready and encourages Vina to embrace herself as she is by discussing the historical context and origin of these harmful comments before leading the festivities.

This film is a component of a project titled "Our Not So Fairy Tales.". As a migrated Hongkonger, and also an international student, I gathered 8 immigrants who moved from Hong Kong to other places for different reasons. Interviewing them motivated me to share their stories of relocation, as migration should be a social problem that people pay attention to, although they might not have been through the process. We, who moved away from our homeland, somehow love or loved our birthplace where we grew up in and where our memories sit. In order to let audience understand more, I chose to describe migration as "leaving home," I thought it would be more relatable since everyone leaves their home after growing up. I think It would be easier to sympathise or even empathise if it comes to feelings and emotions, but not politic. Therefore, this film talks about the background and story behind this project.

When most people think of Native Americans they usually think of the stereotypes that Hollywood has created from a Colonial perspective. Fortunately there's an alternate universe where Native Americans have not only retained control of our lands but where a pair of Zuni film makers are casting for a special project. They need a "diversity hire" in order to get funding, and time is running out. Welcome to Shiwi-verse.... *This was my capstone project for Film Crew 3 & 4, and is the fourth chapter in an anthology. Some elements, like Amanda's phone/quilt, the blue ball, and the security guards are from the previous three chapters. My classmates didn't finish their Slipstream themed projects so I'm submitting this as a stand-alone.

The film was inspired by my internet service provider who has such a department. It is a place of last resort when there is no hope and never a solution.

The Sun Rises in The East chronicles the birth, rise and legacy of The East, a pan-African cultural organization founded in 1969 by teens and young adults in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Led by educator and activist Jitu Weusi, The East embodied Black self-determination, building more than a dozen institutions, including its own African-centered school, food co-op, newsmagazine, publisher, record label, restaurant, clothing shop and bookstore. The organization hosted world-famous jazz musicians and poets at its highly sought-after performance venue, and it served as an epicenter for political contemporaries such as the Black Panther Party, the Young Lords and the Congress of Afrikan People, as well as comrades across Africa and the Caribbean. In effect, The East built an independent Black nation in the heart of Central Brooklyn. The Sun Rises in The East is the first feature-length documentary to explore this inspiring story. The film also examines challenges that led to the organization’s eventual dissolution, including its gender politics, financial struggles and government surveillance. Featuring interviews with leaders of The East, historians and people who grew up in the organization as children, The Sun Rises in The East delivers an exhilarating and compelling vision, showing just how much is possible.

This film sparks conversation surrounding black communities’ convoluted relationship to their hair, discrimination against those with tightly coiled hair, and against what darker-skinned people face within their own spaces.

War tragically pushed Asmaa out of her home country, Syria, where her destiny had been written as a wife and mother with only 16 years of age. Asmaa rebuilt her adult identity as the neighborhood storyteller and began using reading aloud to children for fun as a bridge to tackle critical issues in her new community at the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan. Six years later, with Asmaa’s first born daughter reaching adolescence, a flashback of her education deprived past emerges and inspires her to embark on a new read aloud project to empower teenage girls to build a future of opportunities she never had. Despite her complex living situation as a refugee and the community’s conservative mindset, Asmaa is determined to raise a conscious generation of successful women. The Neighborhood Storyteller is a documentary feature film that explores human resilience, the transition from child to adult and one's capacity to turn hardships into an opportunity for self growth.
