These short films shed new light on the reality and life experiences that immigrants and refugees face as they try to begin their new lives.
Stories of refugees and immigration are at the top of the news each day. These films bring stories to life in a new way for us to understand what it's really like. In the first short taking place in a converted hotel in Athens, Zhenos has been living with her family in a state of perpetual uncertainty. Using layered imagery, the film documents the complex reality of an Afghan girl who is navigating her coming-of-age and is continually shadowed by dark memories. In another short, we meet Gabriel who wants to join a group known for their kindness and charity towards the village refugees. However, when Gabriel's father gets into a fight with one of the local refugees, Gabriel's quest becomes challenging.
Shorts Program Duration: 62 minutes
Themes: Immigration stories both immigrant point-of-view and newcomers; carrying on tradition despite displacement; coming of age in a transitory setting.
