I am Leo
Leo resents their older sister Noemie for being a teenage girl who wants to hang out with boys. A wrench is thrown in Leo’s life when Leo gets their first period. Noemie and the rest of Leo’s family all take turns telling them how this marks their transition to womanhood. Grandma even wants to bake a cake! But Leo does not feel proud or excited. This is in fact a highly emotional and confusing period, because Leo does not want to be a woman. The film explores Leo’s affirmation of their gender identity amidst a tumultuous coming of age.
