Ali and His Miracle Sheep

Every year, millions of Iraqis walk across the desert to the shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala. There, pilgrims mourn Hussein's death and sacrifice animals to feed the hungry. When Ali's father left home to join the fight against ISIS, he promised to bring the boy along on the walk to sacrifice a sheep upon his return. But his father never made it home, leaving Ali behind with an unfulfilled promise. This year, the 9-year-old boy is determined to embark on the journey to sacrifice his sheep, Kirmeta. Guided by his grandmother’s haunting Sumerian lament, Ali and Kirmeta must survive the 250-mile walk to honor his father's memory.
