Maryam is a 10-year old girl from San Francisco on a mission to save suffering pigeons, with a love that borders on obsession. Since she sees pigeons differently than most, their lives are worth saving to Mayam. However, because of her love for pigeons, she is consequently bullied at school.
This coming of age story is a beautifully immersive and vulnerable portrait that would feel at home in a Harmony Korine film. PIGEON GIRL sensitively and intimately observes Maryam’s daily life, exploring how a young girl teaches others about what it means to care.
Director Whitney Legge's artistic touch can be seen as a cinematographer in FRIDA, also programmed at this year's festival.
