Lithuania, 1991. When Soviet troops seize Lithuanian Radio and Television in Vilnius, popular TV announcer Daiva loses her job overnight. Unable to confront the armed occupiers, she stages a hunger strike in a small trailer outside the station, joined by only a handful of colleagues. As the protest drags on, idealism gives way to hunger and frustration, while their improvised refuge becomes a space for unexpected encounters, confessions and human connection.

Inspired by real events, Hunger Strike Breakfast is not a celebration of civic heroism, disobedience or revolt, but quite the opposite: a restrained, grey and befuddled story of weary, not particularly likeable characters searching for their own role in the midst of a historical event unfolding under the blunt force of the Soviet military.

A melancholic comedy in the vein of Aki Kaurismäki that blends deadpan humour with quiet absurdity.

The film premiered at the Warsaw IFF 2025, where it was selected for the Competition 1–2 section, and was subsequently screened in the Baltic Competition at the Tallinn Black Nights FF.
