In a dystopian future, a travelling trio of musicians discover an abandoned house – a relic from the old world. As the bandmates explore the ruin, they stumble upon a hidden room full of precious artifacts of a bygone era. It’s a cultural windfall – journals, books, pictures and of course, music. Amongst the trove, one particular vinyl LP catches the band’s attention: The Age of Consent, by 80s synthpop trio Bronski Beat. As they attempt to make out the degraded lyrics to one of its tracks, inspiration takes hold. After uncovering a degraded vinyl album in an abandoned home, three musicians attempt to reimagine one of its songs.
Director's Biography:
Igor Drljača is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of British Columbia. He completed his Master’s in Film Production at York University in 2011. He runs the production company Timelapse Pictures with filmmaker Albert Shin. He was the recipient of the Ontario Art Council’s K.M. Hunter Artist Award for Media Arts in 2014.
His award-winning short films include Woman in Purple (2010) and The Fuse: or How I Burned Simon Bolivar (2011), which have screened at hundreds of festivals, including South by Southwest, Toronto, Telluride, Tampere, Palm Springs and Wintherthur. In 2013, The Fuse was nominated for Best Short Documentary at the Canadian Screen Awards. His critically-acclaimed debut feature Krivina (2012) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and had its international premiere at Rotterdam. He co-produced Albert Shin’s In Her Place (2014), which received 7 CSA nominations, including Best Picture.
His sophomore feature The Waiting Room (2015) premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival, and had its North American premiere at TIFF. His first feature documentary The Stone Speakers (2018) had its world premiere at TIFF, and international premiere at Berlinale.
Igor is currently in post-production on his third narrative feature, Tabija, a co-production between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which received Rotterdam’s Cinemart Eurimages Prize and was part of the Cannes L’Atelier program.
The Archivists is his latest short film, a dystopian musical starring Noah Reid, Bahia Watson and Maxwell McCabe-Lokos.
