In this delightful documentary/personal discovery film,&nbsp;A More Radiant Sphere&nbsp;follows the long-lost story of Communist poet, activist and Canadian political prisoner Joe Wallace, bringing him to life through archival material, both real and imagined. This hybrid film weaves together the story of Wallace, the Canadian Communist Party, and the filmmaker’s own surprising discovery of her relation to Wallace, despite a distant relationship with her father (Joe’s great-nephew). Segmented throughout are stunning folk songs based on Wallace’s writings, performed by award-winning folk musician Simone Schmidt, aka Fiver. The film delves into the limits of history and its records, and how their re-imagining creates new political and personal truths.

In the tradition of direct cinema,&nbsp;What Will I Show You&nbsp;is an intimate documentary in which a grandfather and his grandson discuss the past and future of Innu culture. An important, first-person film telling the stories of Innu and their culture, their work, and the immediate impacts of environmental degradation on their lands. Themes of Indigenous learning, work and way of life. From the Innu nation and residing in the Tiohtià:ke territory since 2006, Elie-John Joseph has been passionate about cinema since a young age. Self-taught, he has been practising film photography for several years.

What will I show you?

An intimate documentary in which a grandfather and his grandson discuss the past and future of Innu culture.

A young woman discovers the working class history of her neighbourhood through the lens of a 1965 Canon Scoopic 16mm camera and historical figures via Boston’s public art. She begins an important conversation that needs to continue in the labour movement given the overwhelming right wing ideology and misinformation being spread targeting working class folks. The film title comes from an 1857 Frederick Douglass speech: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”

A young photographer sets out to map Black intellectuals and activism in the United States.

A strange being lands by accident on Earth and survives occupying the body of a human. Once camouflaged in terrestrial society, he locates a magnetic pyramidal vortex on the top floor of a skyscraper to return to his planet. This fictional film follows Alberto as he navigates a world not set-up to accommodate him. He undertakes his day-to-day with much effort, and is often met with discomfort, annoyance, and sometimes hostility. This film portrays a fictionalization of living and working with a functional disability. It’s charming and effective in communicating daily struggles of workers who face barriers to full workplace participation. It’s also a reminder that anyone could have an “umbrella.” Film is subtitled in ENGLISH
