Workers’ power and success at the bargaining table comes about through solidarity andorganization. This documentary takes us through a brief history of the Canadian Union of PublicEmployees (CUPE) public sector negotiations in New Brunswick with an emphasis oncoordinated bargaining and current campaigns since the pandemic. It has many lessons for anyone in a union or wanting to organize – as we see the strategies and how they broughtabout success and improved working conditions for public sector workers in CUPE NB. This bilingual (English and French) documentary showcases the unity and resilience of 22,000 public sector workers in New Brunswick, Canada, as they strike against wage suppression. It explores strategic mobilization and collective bargaining efforts by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, culminating in a province-wide movement that successfully challenges austerity and sparks labour action across Canada. In a modern take of Miguel de Unamuno's 1930's novel "San Martín Bueno, martir", where a priest loses faith in god, "Times of Insurrection" tells the story of the CEO of a global corporation who starts to lose faith in capitalism after a mysterious external pressure forces him to change his company forever. In this slick short film, we witness the CEO of a dairy corporation cause a great deal ofdiscomfort and uneasiness in his annual shareholder’s meeting by talking about things that are‘just not discussed’. Things like: corporate responsibility and environmental impact. It might beokay to talk about these things…but will he do anything? It’s fun to watch this scenario play outand to see how nervous it makes the shareholders. Enjoy the uneasiness for a while.
