The story of three American college students and a professor facing up to the painful reality that college tuition has gotten so high that some students can’t afford to pay it and also eat. This film explains how we got here and the high price paid on campuses around the country.

Joey plans a career in the Air Force, but first needs a college degree and he is piling up debt. Shaquara is studying nutrition but can't afford to eat right. Isabella's fellow students stare at her because her stomach growls in class. And, Eve is so ashamed of her limited means that she stops the filming. Activist Professor Sara Goldrick-Rab runs a parallel campaign to quantify the problem of college hunger and search for solutions.
