C'est au Salon automobile de 1955 qu'apparut un grands mythes automobiles du XXe siècle : la DS. Elle stupéfia le public autant que les ingénieurs lorsque furent révélés ses secrets techniques : suspensions hydropneumatiques, direction assistée, boite de vitesse à sélection semi-automatique, freins à disques, sans oublier ses lignes aérodynamiques uniques au monde, sa visibilité et son confort incomparable. Son extraordinaire comportement routier et sa robustesse lui permirent de s'engager en compétition dès 1956. Elle remporta des dizaines de rallyes internationaux, sur tous les types de terrains, dont le célèbre Rallye de Monte-Carlo en 1959 et 1966.

It was at the 1955 Motor Show that a great automobile legend of the 20th century appeared: the DS. It amazed the public as much as the engineers when its technical secrets were revealed: hydropneumatic suspensions, power steering, semi-automatic selection gearbox, disc brakes, not to mention its unique aerodynamic lines, its visibility and its incomparable comfort. Its extraordinary road handling and robustness enabled it to enter competitions from 1956. It won dozens of international rallies, on all types of terrain, including the famous Monte-Carlo Rally in 1959 and 1966.
