A painter in his 85th year chronicles his life in self-portraits revealing an offbeat artistic journey mixed with humor and social commentary. ‘I Never Was a Hippie, I Just Looked Like One’ illustrates a lifetime of art-making through self-portrait paintings and animation narrated by outlier and San Francisco native, Hank Sultan. Born of Jewish Marxist parents, Hank offers us wit, sarcasm and honest reflections as he documents his inner life and outside influences. This documentary short reveals the wisdom of an artist and the perspective of a ‘luddite’ that flies in the face of technology distractions, sharing how creativity, activism and family life produce longevity and personal fulfillment.
