After his brother is killed in a senseless act of violence, Zayy is pulled into a cycle of grief, revenge, and survival in West Baltimore. Director Statement
I didn’t come from a formal film background, and I think that’s shaped the way I see the medium. A lot of traditional references and expectations never became part of my process. From the start, I was more interested in making something than defining what it should be.
I don’t think in terms of masterpieces or magnum opuses. Creating feels more instinctual than that—closer to a form of communication than a pursuit of perfection. People build things because they’re driven to, and filmmaking feels no different.
I’m not trying to make something grand for the sake of it. I’m interested in making work that feels honest, that reflects a moment or an idea in a way that connects. That’s enough.
