After auditioning and receiving a job offer from a prestigious Chicago based orchestra, Yang Yang struggles to find support from her family, because of their views on women and their conservative values. They end up pushing her across the ocean, as she decides to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional cellist, far away from her home in China. Now, decades later, after a very accomplished career, Yang Yang will have to face a similar decision, when her longtime partner falls ill and her health condition worsens, making her reconsider what she fought so hard to get.
