The Castle on Red Mountain is at first a simple drama: with little money, a sculptor and his closest friend set out to rebuild a whimsical 70-foot high castle that they abandoned a decade earlier for unknown reasons. As the movie progresses, new meaning emerges: the castle becomes a spiritual force that affects those who interact with it. Looming mysteriously in the foothills of North Carolina, the castle draws the attention of an eccentric community of ghost hunters, aspiring artists, and others who construct myths about the castle and its creator.
