RECKONING 3 is comprised largely of imagery and sound culled from over two years of Mac and Playstation 3 video game play. Some of this play was explorational, some was performative and much was anthropological in intent. The latter category of play was conducted in online multiplayer "shooter" games, in which numerous strangers "One of my most prized possessions is the Stan Brakhage doll made by Theresa Roberts that was awarded to me when this won BEST EXPERIMENTAL. The color temperature of different light sources is ­measured in Kelvin. 6500 Kelvin corresponds to the value of overcast daylight and is used as a standard for the neutral registration of white surfaces. Unconsciously the human eye adapts to different light conditions, while cameras need adjustment through white balance. "6500" is a video essay on the relativity of words, ­questioning the application of absolute values in an argument, visualized through a play on colors, their spaces, and their highly subjective perception. A single-shot portrait of the Foley process, revealing multiple layers of fabrication and imposition. This choreographed documentary moves us circularly into, through and back outside a Foley stage in Burbank, CA. While portraying sound artists at work, the typically invisible support mechanisms of filmmaking are exposed, as are, by extension and quotation, governmental violations of individual privacy.

An unreliable narrator details how to deliver people in the age of surveillance from within and without, a how-to for lateral minds, a hippie family sitcommune set to a bootleg of Peter Hutton's Florence, a drearily rousing theme song as gps-to-mp3 directions out to the country. With Henry Thomas, Vic Mizzy and Peter Hutton Originally made for RULES, TOOLS AND FOOLS, an exhibition drawing on the legacy of the Whole Earth Catalog at Spudnik Chicago in 2016. WInner of the Made in Chicago award at the 2017 Chicago Underground Film Festival. "I think my favorite CUFF memory with this video took place during a pre-festival party in Chicago. An eager young person was excited that I was a filmmaker (me too) and asked a lot of questions: how did I make the film? how did I secure funding? what kind of camera did I use? my responses felt disappointing,if liberating in my mind. I used my computer and a degraded bootleg of my old teacher's work. it cost nothing to make beyond my [expensive] education, and no cameras were harmed or even used in the making of the piece. At its best, this was hopefully advocacy for a kind of cinema povera to a young enthusiast, at worst, a confusing interaction with a goofball (itself not so bad)." - Jesse Malmed
