The Transect follows a pair of ecologists in Hawai’i tracking the Ope’ape’a bat, an endangered species about which little is known. Along the way, their investigation reveals what is lost and gained in the layers of translation between species, between disciplines, between partners, between languages and cultures.

"Before landing on the story of the Ope’ape’a bat, Andy followed Kim and Forest Starr on field work recording Hawaiian petrels, picking fireweed caterpillars, and discovering over twenty new species of moth. Their work on Haleakala brought them close to the telescopes on the mountain’s summit and inspired Andy’s next work, A*, about the Event Horizon Telescope project." - Andy Graydon
