In the late 1960s, Helene Smith, dubbed the "Queen of Miami Soul," was destined for stardom but became disillusioned with the music business and walked away from recording and performing. She married her manager, had a child, and was a Miami-Dade elementary school teacher before retiring in 2013. In 2017, after a 40-year hiatus, Smith returned to the studio to collaborate with producer/Songwriter Jason Joshua Hernandez, Producer Andrew Yeomanson, aka "DJ Le Spam," and producer/manager Willie Clarke on  original material. Sweet Soul, the film chronicles her journey back to the recording studio and the creative process of recording the song "Let A New Day Begin."
