Dear Kilah tells the story of Russ, a 28-year-old, homeless, Black father who struggles between trying to provide the basics for his young daughter and wanting so desperately to be a part of something bigger-- the Black Lives Matter movement that erupts in his backyard during the summer of 2020.

His journey plays out in an unlikely place -- at the base of the Robert E. Lee Memorial in Richmond, Virginia, which has been named one of the most influential works of American protest art since World War II. Russa's story is one of a father's unwavering love and commitment to his daughter and his refusal to stop fighting for her future during one of the lowest points in his life, and one of our country's darkest chapters. In doing so, he discovers a whole new community in this reclaimed space; one that's full of love and hope.

While the months-long fight to remove the Lee statue continues to drag on, we are approaching the one year anniversary of George Floyd's murder, which kicked off the events that transpire in this film. Dear Kilah is a reflective piece that tells a beautiful story about a tumultuous time.
