Co-presented with the Mother Tongue Film Festival

Reveals the impact of the Coronavirus on one of the Indigenous populations most affected by the disease in Brazil. Narrated in the first person by Divino Tserewahú, the film highlights the desperate struggle of his village, Sangradouro, in the east of Mato Grosso, to survive the most tragic epidemic known to the Xavante nation. Through archival materials and images captured by Divino during the pandemic, the film seeks to relate a traumatic past with the reality of Covid-19 in the Xavante villages.

By documenting the reverence rituals for the dead and the mourning for the departure of dozens of elders and leaders from the Sangradouro village during the pandemic, Divino Tserewahú contrasts in his film ABDZÉ WEDE'Ö a rich imagery of beauty, knowledge and spiritual strength that characterizes the culture Xavante, echoing in the form of a metaphor, the question that cannot be silenced: Is there a cure for the virus?
