About the Award: Established for the 2015 Festival in memory of William Warner by the Warner/Kaempfer family, the Warner Award recognizes a film that reflects a spirit of reverence for the natural world.

Tracey Deer (Director, Beans) has been honored with two Gemini Awards and numerous awards from multiple film festivals, including Hot Docs. She has worked with the CBC, the National Film Board, and numerous independent production companies throughout Canada in both documentary and fiction. Full bio here.


Cynthia Benitez is the program manager at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). She curates and runs NMAI's annual Native Cinema Showcase, hosts film and conversation series and curates international film showcases. Full bio here.
