Give as a gift
Fresh off a breakup, 30-year-old and barely-holding-it-together Sasha brings her mischievous dog, Sushi, to her younger sister’s baby shower. After fielding a barrage of questions from family and friends about why she is so behind in life, Sasha notices too late that Sushi is destroying all of the baby shower gifts, and Sasha’s dad screams at her in front of everyone. Fighting back tears, Sasha grabs her dog and runs out, humiliated.
While Sasha is sitting on a curb feeling sorry for herself and drinking her sorrows away in a champagne bottle wrapped in a poop bag, a dog comes up to Sushi to say hello. The dog’s mom introduces herself and her dog: Jorja and Jpeg. Sasha and Jorja continue on the walk together with their dogs, talking about love, heartbreak, and what it means to release fear and embrace the unknown. Sasha realizes she’s met Jorja before, at the pet supply and adoption center called “Top Bitch” that Jorja owns. As they say goodbye, Sasha agrees to visit Jorja soon.
When Sasha arrives at her parents’ house to get her keys, she overhears them saying they worry she lacks the fundamental life skills necessary to be happy in life. Devastated, Sasha goes outside with Sushi, and, inspired by her conversation with Jorja, decides she can’t be burdened with other people’s expectations for her life. In her parents’ backyard, she releases her fear of rejection and desire to be accepted.
