Short Films: Rattai Jadai, Saakshatkaaram, Pilibhit

Rettai Jadai, which mean s double plaits in Tamil, follows the life of Viru, a teenager constantly ridiculed for her unruly hair. Viru wants nothing more than a set of red ribbons like the ones her best friend Bhanu wears, but her mother cannot afford them. Even as Viru is envious of Bhanu, their friendship takes a turn when Viru finds anunexpected red stain on her dress.

Our world, the only known place where life exists, is a tiny speck in this vast universe. When we realize that, this is the only family we have, all the differences like boundaries, religions, colours and languages that divide us, vanish and we attain Saakshatkaaram, the realisation. Saakshatkaaram is about the inner journey of a pious Hindu man, mourning his wife’s death and his search for finding redemption. He decides to meet a Muslim family from a foreign country; only because his wife’s hands now belong to one of them and are alive!

Inspired from true stories, Siraj, a righteous, impoverished flute maker, resides at the edge of the forests of Pilibhit, North India, where man eating tigers thrive. His mounting livelihood pressures and tragedies corner him to take a drastic measure that threatens to tear down his values and a loved one.

PILIBHIT

An interactive documentary that portrays the sexual and gender diversity in the South Asian diaspora. The journeys of LGBTQ+ individuals and their families are navigated through a digital three-dimensional mandala which is used as a metaphor for humanity.
