Spirit Bear is on his way home from a sacred ceremony when he meets Jake, a friendly dog, with a bag full of paper hearts attached to wood stakes. Jake tells Spirit Bear that school children and residential school survivors will plant the hearts when a big report on residential schools called the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC for short) is shared. The TRC will have Calls to Action so we can all help end the unfairness and make sure this generation of First Nations, Métis and Inuit children grow up healthy and proud!

Mosom (Grandfather) doesn’t want to start a conflict after being treated unjustly by a medical professional. After a string of funny flashbacks, Granddaughter’s fiery encouragement reminds Mosom of his strength to expect better. Throughout Mosom’s journey, a good doctor shares important facts and reassurance that Indigenous people should expect decent health care. Filmmaker Lese Skidmore ((RE)CLAIMING INDIAN STATUS, CIFF 2020) uses Indigenous humor and education to encourage Indigenous people to speak up when they are mistreated in medical situations. This rotoscope animation was created to address the ongoing issues of systemic discrimination in Canadian health care systems.

Rabbit Stories is a Cherokee series that captures the essence of Cherokee culture and entirely in the Cherokee Language. This show is made possible by the Cherokee Nation, and the talented Cherokee cast, which includes the renowned academy award winning Wes Studi, who is nothing short of exceptional. The director, Joseph Erb, brings his unique vision to life, creating a show about the Cherokee community. ﻿ The first episode of Rabbit Stories, "Granny Is an Outlaw", introduces us to Granny, an old woman who has lived her whole life on the reservation. Granny is a rule follower, but one day, she finds herself on the wrong side of the law. In a bid to escape the authorities, she embarks on a thrilling adventure, running from the police and trying to evade capture but then ends up running for her life with supernatural events. As the story unfolds, we see the close bond between Granny and her family, and we root for them every step of the way. ﻿ What sets Rabbit Stories apart is its masterful blend of action, suspense, and family values. The story takes us on a journey through the Cherokee culture, highlighting themes of tradition, the supernatural, and resilience. This show is not just entertainment but a celebration of a proud culture that deserves to be shared with the world. Starring Academy Award winner Wes Studi.

Rubaboo is a philosophy about what sustains us; it’s about feeding the spirit, and it’s about thriving. Rubaboo features Aboriginal theatre, music, dance, art, food, family and youth events, artist workshops, cultural workshops and visual arts. Its mandate is to encourage collaborations and to develop new artistic works and present these works in progress to a broad audience both during the festival but also through full production and touring. We’re committed to giving Aboriginal artists this forum and platform to perform their art, grow as artists, contribute their work to the community, and to bring audiences of all backgrounds together to enjoy the vast artistic expressions that exist in Aboriginal culture.The Dreamspeakers Festival Society goal remains the same for the past 25 years, which is to connect in a meaningful way, to learn how to be more impactful to the needs of artists and our greater community. The activities we propose will advance our effective strategic planning for years and puts us in a better position to honour the original vision of the Dreamspeakers founders to be a resource for Aboriginal filmmakers, storytellers, artists and community.
