Putting Them Where They Could Do No Harm: Fletcher Bowron, mayor of Los Angeles, 1938-53, used his weekly radio show to indict Japanese as waiting for the signal from the homeland. His amazingly racist rhetoric spewed over Los Angeles’s airwaves, fueled the removal of Japanese and Japanese Americans from the West Coast. Now is the time to remove his name from the square that honors him.
