When his younger brother joins the team, a high school lacrosse player makes the difficult decision to stand up to his coach's abuse.

Director - Liz Lian

As a former lacrosse player myself, I know how valuable athletics are to children and young adults. At the same time, instances of abuse such as those that took place at Penn State and USA Gymnastics have shown us how institutions can remain complicit and protect adults in authority positions who abuse their power over athletes. But the brave survivors who spoke up showed us how important it is and how difficult it can be to confront abuse and protect your teammates. At its heart, “Avalanches” is an underdog story of two brothers and their courage. I hope it will inspire audiences to act, advocate for survivors, and understand what it really means to be a team.
