A Woman from Santiago

“Descent” follows the story of K, a former asylum client of creator Anjali Mehta’s who was separated from her daughter upon arriving in the United States. Like so many other adults seeking asylum, the loss of her child at the hands of immigration authorities led K into a downward spiral — one that eventually manifested as schizophrenia. Unable to receive the care she needed, K fell deeper and deeper into despair. Unfortunately, the K that ended up before an asylum judge was not the fighter her lawyers knew her to be, and she was deported without her daughter. In Descent, Anjali attempts to capture K's journey upon arriving in the U.S., using her ghungroo (bells) — so inextricably tied to one's identity as a dancer — to symbolize K's child.

Set during the COVID-19 pandemic, live-stream gamer Cairo loses to the newbie Gavreel in an online game. But Gavreel has set his eyes on the bigger prize, and that is to win the reluctant heart of Cairo, who's dealing with his own personal problems.

AND THEN is a short film about two women who meet and grow closer to each other through insomnia, exploring a new city, and art.It is a story about missed connections, loneliness, adventure, longing to be accepted, art, finding purpose, and the possibility of reconnecting with those we've lost touch with. The short film follows Mana, a Japanese-American woman who arrives in Tokyo seeking to find a break from her life as an artist, and Haru, a Japanese woman from the countryside who dreams of becoming an artist herself one day. They meet under unique circumstances, and their story unfolds.
