In collaboration with the best wine and sake bar in Fredrikstad, the festival presents a selection of the best abstract and non-figurative animated films from the international animation scene. Hoipolloi opened in 2019 and quickly became a natural partner for the festival.
Director's Note:
The program consists of six films from Japan, Finland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, and the USA and proves that you do not need a narrative to create a good animated film. The films are repetitive and meditative, where the visual expression is at the centre of the experience, often with a strongly present soundscape.

Joanna Priestley loves animation and has directed, animated, and produced 31 films, including abstract animated feature North of Blue, and iOS app Clam Bake. Priestley was founding president of ASIFA NW and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and she has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, American Film Institute and the MacDowell Colony.
