The best beer bar in town has over the last five years been a regular hangout for the festival audience with its nice taste and atmosphere. To complete the Thursday night a Midnight Madness screening is held at TÆPS, with films that push the boundaries both for animation as a medium and might also push some for the audience as well. Nine films are selected for the program, some with a trigger warning and all of them with a big WTF stamp. Age limit: 20

IDEA: We want to highlight the changes in artistic self-expression of humanity. Exponentially more capable AI tools are replacing countless hours of artistic labor with a prompted result almost instantly. Ever increasing ability to mimic human behavior creates daunting and curious, sometimes funny results. This film is an imprint in time, a documentation of this technology in its infancy stage. Interestingly enough it's already not easy to decipher AI art from that of a human artist. This is portrayed through AI-generated visual art and narrative built from conversations with it. The film is made to create a natural curiosity about this technology and its relationship with humans. Technical information: All images were generated by AI, but animated by humans (after effects). Texts were generated by AI and adapted to fit the idea. Some parts of the music are also generated by Ai, but mostly composed by Julius Zubavičius. 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗸𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘀 and Julius Zubavicius combining animation and music in a unique way. Julius is veteran sound designer, and composer who worked on more than on 30 titles and Antanas is one of the most productive animator in Lithuania. They create unique animated short films driven by sound.

What is The Transient? It's that fleeting moment when you question what you're seeing when uncanny valley takes over and when harmonious wildlife is revealed as a monstrous result of cloning and obsessive manipulation of nature. Or the moment when you ignore the lure of the real and give in to the overwhelming beauty of growth, the blooming of spring, and the glow of midsummer night. Real, based on a true story, artificial, imaginary, a natural paradise, an apocalyptic corruption of nature. The Transient is all of these things and more. Pink Twins is a duo of visual artists and electronic musicians, brothers Juha (born 1978) and Vesa Vehviläinen (born 1974), based in Helsinki, Finland. Active as Pink Twins since 1997, their videos work on the crossing of visual art and music. Live Pink Twins deliver improvised digital soundscapes, often combined with video screenings. Pink Twins have shown their works in exhibitions and festivals in all continents and performed audiovisual live shows through Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia.

Cave Painting

A natural history fantasy film that portrays the dramatic life cycle of the salmon in human form, from the river to the sea and back. BAFTA-nominated directing duo Karni and Saul, an Israeli/British male-female couple, create mixed media films, commercials, and music videos. Together they make "casual fantasy” films, a merging of beautiful photography and film with high-end animation and magical elements. In their art, visual pleasure and emotional narrative are key. In 2010 Karni & Saul showcased their short film Turning, for BBC, which was nominated for a BAFTA. Their second short film Flytopia was commissioned by Film4 as part of the short-to-feature scheme. It has toured the festival's circuit and been screened worldwide. Karni and Saul's films have won awards at Annecy, British Animation Awards, and Clermont Ferrand Festival among many others. Karni and Saul have recently completed an epic two-year mixed media short film commission for Bfi called WILD SUMMON, a natural history fantasy.

Wild Summon

Confused by the whole world and his own body, a teenager is forced to discover in a strange way the truth about his sexual identity by confronting his other half. Serghei Chiviriga is an internationally raised, Bucharest-based director and scriptwriter working in film and animation. Initially trained as an actor and animator, he has an M.A. degree from the Faculty of Film, Directing Animation Film, UNATC. His constant search for finding fresh ways to express his vision and feelings on the screen, combined with his interest and passion for animation, led him to write and direct the stop motion short film The Best Customer (2017) and a 2D animated short film Sasha (2022). Serghei's ability to explore different cinematic techniques, with a mix between live-action and animation, confirmed him as a new directing voice by creating a striking visual language.

An Iranian girl reminisces about her school years and explores the idea of being 'just a female' through the memories associated with her old uniform. Yegane Moghaddam is an Iranian animator and illustrator with a strong passion for nature, culture, and the reality she lives in.

But it’s also about a weird character and his cat who claims his way to eternity. Maybe it’s just a story about a man and a cat. But a good one. André Almeida is a Portuguese self-taught video artist working with 3D animation and through the last 12 years has been developing this passion. Currently based in Lisbon, Almedia worked with some national and international brands but as they started to understand the great feedback on their work and got tired of working in projects that didn’t reflect their vision and what they considered art, they dedicated themself to work on the projects that would represent better their identity as an artist. That’s what brings us here. To the project of their life. Catisfaction. Almedia has been developing this short film that they wrote, designed, and directed over the last 3 years and they truly believe that this represents them entirely as an artist.

Digital pet cat Miisu gets tired of her owner and starts to revolt. Inspired by Tamagotchi, Miisufy observes the world through the eyes of digital pets. Liisi Grünberg is an animator and artist with years of experience. She has worked on numerous films and published several comic books. Miisufy is her first independent short.

Vinca (also known as periwinkle) is an invasive plant and will destroy the ecosystem. Mejs Hasan loves making animations and is very happy to be part of this festival. She has a Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her favorite animation topics are science research, the environment, places she loves, and human rights issues. Sometimes she even makes animations with kids. She also likes to write.
