A community of garden creatures all contribute to the flow of life, using water from a fountain. When a butterfly gets stuck in the fountain, they’re faced with an unfamiliar situation. Suncana Brkulj (1997) earned her MA in animation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. Her student films have been selected for screenings at prestigious festivals in Annecy, Ottawa, Zagreb, Stuttgart, and elsewhere, winning several awards. After graduating, Suncana undertook a residency at Open Workshop in Viborg, where she made her first professional film, Butterfly. Butterfly

Taking inspiration from 20th-century avant-garde experiments in graphical sound generation, the entire image in O/S functions as an optical soundtrack. Abstract motion becomes sound. What you hear is exactly what you see. Max Hattler’s experimental animation works explore relationships between abstraction and figuration, aesthetics and politics, sound and image, and precision and improvisation. Max holds a BA in Media and Communications from Goldsmiths, an MA in Animation from the Royal College of Art, and a Doctorate in Fine Art from the University of East London. His work has been presented at museums, galleries and festivals around the world. Awards include London International Animation Festival, Annecy Animation Festival, and several Visual Music Awards. He has performed live at Sonar Hong Kong, Seoul Museum of Art, EXPO Milano and the European Media Art Festival. Max has been on the jury of festivals including Filmfest Dresden, Animafest Zagreb, CutOut Fest Mexico, Punto y Raya Festival and Tehran International Animation Festival. He is a Professor at School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.

Visible Mending is a short animated documentary about the ways we repair ourselves through knitting, even when we can’t be fully mended. Sam Moore is a UK based, international award winning animation director and researcher. She loves the joyfulness and eclectic nature of animation. No one ever finds animation intimidating, and yet it can convey complex ideas to a wide audience in an engaging way. Sam has made work on diverse subjects, from competitive sweet-pea growing, to cutting edge microbiology, archaeology, neuroscience, and her own experience of having twins.
