Feathers of Fire is a breathtaking cinematic shadow play telling the magical tale of star-crossed lovers from the tenth-century Persian epic Shahnameh (The Book of Kings). Accompanied by an original score that draws on traditional music, the play incorporates puppets, costumes, masks, scenography, and digital animation to create a unique theatrical experience. The acclaimed musical team of Loga Ramin Torkian and Azam Ali (both of whom have performed at the Freer Gallery of Art) created the original score. Feathers of Fire had its world premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2016 and went on to tour twenty-three US cities and six countries for a total audience of more than 100,000. Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola called the production, “Fantastic! Spectacular cinematic wizardry.” Italy’s Le Figaro praised it as “astonishing and magical!” Director Hamid Rahmanian is a 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship winner.
