“Why have there been no “great” women composers?” asked Pauline Oliveros in the New York Times back in 1970, in an insightful analysis of gender bias in the arts sector. The truth is there have been, but history has a nasty habit of ignoring them. Sisters with Transistors aims to right this wrong with the portrait of nine electronic music's female pioneers who shaped the soundtrack of the 20th century. From Suzanne Ciani who invented the famous Coca-Cola “pop and pour” sound effect, to Coventry’s finest Delia Derbyshire (the arranger of the original Dr Who theme), this archival documentary is a joyous and exciting look into the (r)evolution of electronic music and the women that led it. Narrated by Laurie Anderson. To coincide with this screening, we’re delighted to present a live performance from British electronic musician <a href="https://carosnatch.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Caro C</a>, who was also a researcher on the film. In association with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.deliaphonic.co.uk/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Deliaphonic</a>, who have been celebrating the legacy of Delia Derbyshire in her home city of Coventry since 2017 This film is only available to viewers in the UK and Northern Ireland.

Composer, performer and producer of sensual electronica, Caro C is a "one woman electronic avalanche" based in Manchester, UK. Caro was a researcher on Sisters With Transistors and is also the instigator of electronic music charity Delia Derbyshire Day =(the charity’s aim is to advance the art and education of electronic music via the work and archive of Delia Derbyshire). Caro will perform material from her forthcoming new album "Electric Mountain" using her voice, found sounds, live sampling, effects and a laptop. Best absorbed via headphones. This performance is presented in association with <a href="https://www.deliaphonic.co.uk/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Deliaphonic</a>, who have been celebrating the legacy of Delia Derbyshire in her home city of Coventry since 2017.
