Chuck Connelly was considered the bold new voice of neo-expressionist painting in New York City in the 1980s. Though an authentic genius, Connelly just couldn’t seem to cope with the commercialization of art, or with his personal issues, and embrace success in the way the art world wanted, so he spiraled into alcoholism and general rage. Now he lives a secluded life where he paints non-stop, chain smokes incessantly, and hoards thousands of his own pieces. Chuck isn’t exactly the most likable person in the world, even his friends tend to agree, but there is something about his brilliance that makes him magnetic. Chuck decided that allowing this documentary to be made might help set the record straight about his leaving the spotlight, while also trying to overcome a lifetime of failures, regret, and missed opportunities.
