The story of Vivian Liberto - Johnny Cash’s first wife and married to him for 13 years - as told for the first time by their four daughters. What begins as a whirlwind summer romance turns into marriage and a life on the road, during which Johnny Cash becomes a superstar household name, painfully estranged from his first family. A classic tale of stardom, love, isolation, fear, heartbreak, and survival, My Darling Vivian is illustrated with never before seen photographs and home videos, and features the four Cash daughters (Rosanne, Kathy, Cindy, and Tara), produced by Cash's grandson Dustin Tittle, and directed by Tittle's husband, filmmaker Matt Riddlehoover.

The country star’s romance with June Carter is well-known, but this new documentary very much shines the spotlight on Cash’s first wife, Vivian Liberto. In the mythologised version of the Johnny Cash story, his wife and collaborator, June Carter, is portrayed as the saintly woman who rescued the country singer from the dark side of fame. This version of Cash’s life story was immortalised in the 2005 film Walk The Line. In the film, Cash’s first wife Vivian, on the other hand, was made to look like a petty shrew on the sidelines when really she was the inspiration for the song “I Walk the Line.” This fascinating documentary attempts to salvage the reputation of a woman believed to be misconstrued and shoved into obscurity.
