Specially abled Gopal Nag – a resident of Chandamari Bengali village in Biswanath district of Assam; never considered himself to be disadvantaged; thanks to his perseverance, passion towards farming, and constant motivation from his mother.

Gopal Nag had a major accident due to which he lost his lower limbs in 2014. Post Nag’s accident, thoughts of hopelessness surrounded him. Afterall, how could a man without both his limbs progress ahead in life?

That’s when Nag’s mother motivated him to not lose hope and practice farming. Nag battled through his initial self doubts to take his condition as a challenge and become a farmer. Farming gave Nag a new sense of identity and purpose in life; along with a hope for a better world, as he understood the value of being a responsible farmer and engaging in sustainable farming.

Nag story highlights the power and potential of the human mind. If one has strong will power and perseveres, they can achieve anything. Nag advocates for the disabled to consider themselves specially abled and become independent. He strongly believes that for the specially abled to feel empowered, they should be treated as equals, not out of charity, but because it is their birthright.
