Being able to cut down a tree is something that grown-ups do. A young boy's determination to be like the others leads him into the forest of the French countryside with nothing but an axe. Once face-to-face with the tree, the boy's determination quickly descends into uncertainty when he hears an unexpected sound coming from the tree: a heartbeat. As the decision of whether or not to cut down the tree begins to pull him apart, he breaks away from this and chooses to ultimately spare the tree, making a lifelong friend in the process.
