DOCUMENTARY SHORT.&nbsp;The Sandwich Generation, those caught between their aging parents and young children, includes some 20 million Americans.In this emotionally charged account of family caregiving, filmmaker Julie Winokur and her husband, photojournalist Ed Kashi, expose their personal lives with unflinching candor. Winokur and Kashi uprooted their two children and their business in order to move 3,000 miles cross-country to care for Winokur’s father, Herbie.At 83, Herbie suffers from dementia and can no longer live alone. Winokur and Kashi are faced with difficult choices and overwhelming responsibility as they charge head on through their Sandwich years. It is a story of love, family dynamics and the immeasurable sacrifice of those who are caught in the middle.

DOCUMENTARY SHORT. Justin has always managed to escape his own story. But his past catches up with him when he discovers his father’s VHS recordings and sees his mother as he’s never seen her before - young and healthy. When Justin was four, a brain stroke left her partially paralyzed and unable to speak. Seeing the mother he longed to have in his father’s recordings triggers him to confront his family’s misfortunes. With his father dead, his mother is the only person he can turn to for answers. While she struggles to communicate with the help of a computer, she is sharp and witty. Justin begins to draw the connection between the mother he longed to have and the woman in the wheelchair.

NARRATIVE SHORT. When Bob, Denise and Maggie’s elderly father, receives his terminal cancer diagnosis, they encourage him to prepare his end-of-life care plan so there’s no misunderstanding of what he wants or doesn’t want. But Bob is not having any part of it even though his doctor is encouraging him too. Throw in some family dynamics, disagreements and resentments, plus a healthy dose of stubbornness, and the scene changes dramatically when Bob is hospitalized.

For the last 31 years, Kathleen has done the hair of the terminally ill in palliative care. In this short documentary, Kathleen reflects on her experience as we bear witness to her unusual work.
