Director's Statement
Scarlett has always liked writing and really got into the idea of filmmaking after she was given a school documentary project about recycling to do. She loved writing, directing and editing the film and now wanted to try something fictional. She was also in love with her father's new Samsung Galaxy Z-flip phone, being too young to remember flip-phones the first time around!
Scarlett particularly liked the new filming features on the phone, especially the ability to shoot in portrait mode video. She really wanted to experiment with different modes and angles to tell her story. It was a holiday project, and she was only allowed to shoot at home with her family. Being a huge cat lover, she decided this also had to include Pebbles, the family cat! Once she had the idea, the script took about a week to complete.
Scarlett's brother Miles really wants to be an actor, so he was very keen to be in front of the camera. However, a 10-year-old director working with a 7-year-old star did not always go smoothly. But all differences of opinion were solved with the tried and tested combination of compromise and chocolate!
