Egili Aparecida de Oliveira Conceição, one of Brazil’s most renowned samba queens. Alongside her film, Egili will be performing live samba and offering exclusive lessons to Vancouver audiences.

Egili, hailing from the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, is known for her incredible performances in the world-famous Carnaval, where she reigns as a Rainha da Bateria (Drum Queen). Her inspiring journey, chronicled in the documentary directed by Caroline Reucker, delves into the challenges and triumphs Egili has faced as a Black woman navigating the demanding world of samba while fighting for her place in society.

In addition to her electrifying film premiere and live performance, Egili will be offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Vancouver locals: the chance to learn samba from the queen herself! If any local schools or dance institutions are interested in hosting her, Egili is available for 90-minute lessons during her 5-day stay in Vancouver.
