to create stories that I wish I'd had the chance to discover before. I find it important that the queer aspect is represented, without it being the most central subject. »
Cory Schwartz is a Charleston, SC based filmmaker, musician, and music videographer who prides himself in being an outsider independent artist. After studying video and getting a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, Cory worked in Film and TV for a few years before changing paths and eventually opening a grilled cheese food truck and restaurant. The restaurant became a well known indie venue that offered young and emerging artists a space to play - including the Psycodelics. During this time Cory used his passion for video to record the performers at his shop, eventually branching out into music videos, narrative shorts, documentary shorts and more. During the pandemic, Cory found himself able to focus on filmmaking full time, launching a YouTube channel for Charleston artists and creating a variety show. After filming a few videos of the Psycodelics, he realized his collection of archival footage, combined with a years long friendship and unique set of skills, made him the perfect person to film a feature length documentary about the band. The Psycodelics The Movie is Cory’s first feature film.
Statement: My goal as a music documentarian is to showcase music and musical talent in the most engaging way possible. I set out to make a bio pic about a little known local band, because I believe the world will love them and their music when they see and hear it.
The story of a South Carolina funk band, from humble small town roots to playing the big stage, with explorations into the history of funk and their prodigious talents in church, musical education, and world class performances. >>website<<
